POLIBA presents IN2CCAM Route Planner for autonomous vehicles at Bari Mobility Conference

Professor Maria Pia Fanti of the Polytechnic of Bari (POLIBA) presented the IN2CCAM project at the recent Innovation of Mobility in Bari conference, held on 7 and 8 March at Villa Romanazzi Carducci. The conference, organized by Club Italia, Amtab, and the Municipality of Bari (IN2CCAM partner), brought together key players in the transportation sector to discuss advancements in artificial intelligence, electronic ticketing, MaaS (Mobility as a Service), and fleet renewal.

Professor Fanti, the project coordinator, highlighted one of the use cases of the Bari Living Lab, a follower Living Lab within the IN2CCAM project. This lab focuses on simulations and data assessments to evaluate the feasibility and impact of the IN2CCAM technologies. Her presentation focused on the project’s development of a novel Route Planner specifically designed for autonomous vehicles. This planner considers user needs and real-time traffic to suggest optimal routes. It also promotes inclusivity by offering features like support for disabled users and navigation for specific demographics. AI helps optimize routes and traffic lights, making the transport network more efficient. This approach aims to improve travel efficiency, inclusivity, and wider acceptance of autonomous vehicles, leading to a smarter and more sustainable city.

Professor Fanti’s presentation aligned with the conference’s theme of exploring innovative solutions for sustainable and efficient urban mobility. The IN2CCAM project positions Bari as a leading city in the development and testing of autonomous vehicle technologies. The project’s successful implementation of a new route planner, tested with simulations and emulations within the Bari Living Lab, paves the way for further exploration of autonomous vehicles as a viable transportation option in the future.
