Bari Awareness Event Unveils CCAM Simulation results

The IN2CCAM Awareness Events continue to gain momentum as they approach their final stretch. Following Quadrilátero’s successful event in late January, Bari took centre stage last week, introducing the project’s scope and demonstrating how CCAM services and technologies can accelerate urban mobility innovation. The event highlighted key findings from the Bari Living Lab’s simulations and emulations, offering valuable insights into the future of connected, cooperative, and automated mobility.

Bari’s Living Lab presented two pioneering use cases designed to tackle major mobility challenges in the city. The first use case focused on a Route Planner developed to address user concerns and promote greater acceptance of CCAM technologies. This tool factors in user type, preferences, and real-time traffic conditions to suggest optimal routes. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusivity, ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, gender-specific navigation, and integration of key locations such as schools and parks. By catering to diverse user needs, the Route Planner aims to create a more user-friendly and equitable transport system.

The second use case explored last-mile deliveries in urban areas, seeking to reduce traffic congestion by interconnecting multiple micro-hubs for efficient storage, sorting, and distribution of goods. Simulations using a digital twin assessed dynamic routing, on-demand services, and the potential of night-time deliveries to leverage off-peak hours. This innovative approach aims to minimise empty miles, optimise vehicle loads, and gradually integrate autonomous vehicles into freight transport, ultimately reducing emissions and enhancing sustainability.

A scalable vision for future mobility

The insights gained from Bari’s Living Lab not only provide solutions tailored to the city but also offer scalable models adaptable to other European cities and beyond. By improving mobility efficiency, promoting inclusivity, and reducing environmental impact, these results support a broader transition toward smarter, more sustainable urban transport.

The event drew significant interest from industry leaders, public authorities, and local media, reinforcing the importance of CCAM advancements in reshaping urban mobility. IN2CCAM partner 5Tplayer also participated in the event, introducing findings and a video detailing experimentation in the Turin Living Lab, offering insights into national use cases, key challenges, and how IN2CCAM solutions have addressed them.

With the Bari Awareness Event marking another milestone in the IN2CCAM journey, attention now shifts to the upcoming Turin Living Lab Awareness Event on Thursday, 27 February, where further results and advancements will be unveiled.
